It is unclear which poll the King was referring to. The Flemings make up 60 per cent of the Belgians. In the 2004 elections 24.1 per cent of them voted for the Flemish separatist Vlaams Belang and 26.1 per cent for a Christian Democrat alliance consisting of two parties, one of which advocates Flemish independence, the other in favour of a confederal Belgium. The Liberals, who have a Flemish secessionist (and republican) wing as well, ended third with 19.8 per cent. According to the polls, Jean-Marie Dedecker, a Flemish secessionist and republican member of the Liberal Party, is currently Flanders’ most popular politician.
The courtiers at the royal palace fabricate their own poll to cheer up the King. He is the only head of state who needs to refer to dubious polls to prove that his country is still wanted by his people.

Wat de koningskwestie betreft, denk ik wel dat de Vlaamse onafhankelijkheid uiteindelijk soelaas zal bieden.
Deze onafhankelijkheid is een vaststaand feit en zal er zeker komen, al is het maar uitsluitend door de arrogante houding en de onredelijkheid van de Franstaligen, die maar nog steeds niet willen doorhebben dat de modale Vlaming ooit genoeg zak hebben van al het getreiter en gebeschimp. De Vlaming kan veel verduren maar eens zal hij zo ver getreiterd worden dat hij er finaal genoeg van krijgt.
Echter, indien vlaanderen niet binnen een termijn van, laat ons zeggen, 20 jaar onafhankelijk wordt, wordt het volgens mij nooit meer onafhankelijk. Men kan de druk niet eeuwig op de ketel houden. Dan wacht de Vlaming immers hetzelfde lot als de VB-stemmer in Antwerpen. Dan is de Vlaming politiek uitgeschakeld door een vreemdelingenleger. - At 11:23 Anoniem said...
